Careers services

Please comment on the support you’ve had from the careers services, the type of employers that present and recruit on campus, the effectiveness of the alumni network, as well as fairs and on-campus recruitment activity.

2016

"The careers service offers its own employability award, CV and application sessions and practical skills such as first aid and sign language courses and mock interviews. Each year the university has a careers fair with local employers as well as national employers. The law school takes students to the Nottingham Law Fair every year, which is one of the biggest law fairs in the country. It's a great networking event and a chance to meet some potential employers and find out if their firm is for you."
"The careers service does put on workshops and activities to add to your CV but it doesn't have strong connections with big law companies so we have to go to the careers fair of a different university."
"I felt recruitment support after uni was limited, partially as Lincoln and the surrounding area is limited in terms of opportunities."
"The careers service gives you plenty of information about part-time, full-time and volunteer jobs. The alumni team are still in contact with us later down the line and invite us to events in and out of Lincoln. At career days and events, there are a range of industries that can help you to figure out what you want to do. It's amazing and there are plenty of options to get involved no matter who you are."
"We've had lots of employment services and careers fairs."
"I have attended job fairs that the university has hosted and alumni events but have not found them particularly helpful. I think it's better to attend workshops, guest lectures, and hands-on activities to actually feel prepared. I also feel that the careers services should have mandatory meetings with every student throughout their learning years at university to prepare them for possible career avenues."
"We have mock large-group recruitment interviews to give us an insight into how interview processes may be structured in larger companies."
"I'm currently taking part in the Lincoln Award, which enables me to take part in extra activities such as sign language and first aid classes. I can also collect hours of work experience and practise interview techniques in order to make myself more employable."
