University of Huddersfield
Clubs and social environment
Please tell us more about the social environment, sports clubs and societies and anything else you think candidates need to know about life at your university.
"The social environment is amazing. There's literally a club for almost anything and everything and, if there isn't, you can make your own. It's just a generally easy-going university that I think gives every student a good all-round experience!"
"If you're outgoing then the social environment is brill but it lacks facilities for introverts."
"We have fantastic sports facilities."
"The uni has a wide and diverse range of clubs and societies."
"There are plenty of societies and clubs at the University of Huddersfield from paintball to fencing, it is fantastic! There are so many to choose from and I would tell candidates not to be scared to join as most have trial weeks or sessions to see if you like it. The socials that come along with it are amazing, especially when the pub you go to has special offers for the society!"
"The amount of sporting opportunities is quite good for a mid-size university but some larger interest groups are sadly missing."
"There are many sports clubs but not that many non-sport societies."
"Huddersfield offers a huge variety of societies and sports clubs. Where there is a gap for a new sport/society it often gets filled by people organising a new one."
"There's a vast amount of social opportunities within clubs and societies."
"The gym is nice. Sports, especially the basketball club, are amazing."
"Huddersfield's students' union does a fantastic job of sponsoring and supporting a wide range of societies. I was a part of the music society in my first year and I am still a member of the LGBTQ+ society. There's something for everyone and it's a great way of meeting friends from outside the sphere of your studies."
"There is a uni magazine and a radio station that students can get involved in, which is really cool."
"It's so good, they have everything you need and more. I'm pretty sure that there is a club for just about everything and, if there isn't, you can start a new one."
"The students' union tries very hard to make sure all students get an enjoyable experience and keeps people up to date as much as possible with many varieties of clubs. You don't have to have experience in sports clubs so you can start from being a beginner."
"Excellent societies, lots of sports events and great opportunities."
"We have a range of sport societies offering football, hockey, kickboxing and fencing so there is a lot to choose from."
"There's a great choice of clubs to join. It can sometimes be difficult to do them all as they fall at the same time as some uni classes."
"There is a lot of variety in clubs but some are fairly high cost."
