About the institution
The University of Essex opened in 1964 and celebrated its 50th year in 2014. It has three campuses in Colchester, Loughton and Southend. Loughton is the home of East 15 Acting School, one of the largest and most highly respected theatre schools in the UK producing notable alumni such as Alison Steadman (Gavin and Stacey) and Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners). Meanwhile, Colchester has hosted the World Ultimate Frisbee Championships. The university has been ranked in the top ten for student satisfaction.
