About the institution
The University of Edinburgh dates back to 1583 and is typically ranked among the top universities in the QS World University Rankings. Its degree programmes are usually four years, allowing students to study a range of subjects in their first two years before specialising. All undergraduate accommodation is a short walk from the city centre, which is particularly well known for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival held there each summer. Charles Darwin was an undergraduate at the university’s medical school from 1825 to 1827.
