Student Police Officers
Whether you’re fresh out of education or have some work experience under your belt, Northamptonshire Police is the ideal place to pursue a varied and challenging career. We are currently recruiting for Student Police Officers to join our numbers, and are keen to talk to those who share our commitment to protecting people from harm. Combining studying with hands-on experience, this multi-layered training programme has been built around our core values – of being honest, fair, approachable and reliable – and is the basis for a fulfilling career in which you will be encouraged to pursue your ambitions.
Our innovative victim-focussed approach to crime starts with reducing reoffending by challenging and changing perpetrator behaviour, and ends with swift and effective resolution to cases. Such methodology underpins everything you will learn during an initial 17-week period in the classroom, where you will study policing procedures and gain an understanding of the law. Supported by a tutor officer who will assess your development and mentor your progress, you will put your new knowledge to the test with periods within the Response and Force Investigation teams, responding to and investigating crime, dealing with suspects, victims and witnesses and seeing cases through to court. And of course, once you’ve completed your probationary period, there really is no saying where your career could take you – from promotion to pursuing your specific areas of interest, Northamptonshire Police is a great place in which to build your future.
You won’t just find job satisfaction in Northamptonshire – you’ll find a great quality of life too. Enjoying an enviable location in the heart of the country with good transport links, we’re just an hour’s commute from the vibrant cities of Birmingham, Oxford and London. And with average house prices and rents so much lower than many cities, plus a thriving social and cultural scene, stunning countryside and plenty of local sports teams to support, our staff enjoy a quality of life that’s hard to beat.
We don’t expect recruits to have any specific experience in order to apply for this role – though of course those who have worked as Community Support Officers or in any other related fields are welcome to apply. Alternatively, you might have A-levels or NVQ level experience or come from a background such as the armed forces. Regardless of where you’re at in life, what is most important is your willingness to learn and your shared vision of a safer Northamptonshire for everyone. To make the most of this interesting opportunity, you will therefore be able to accept feedback and use it to improve your skills and knowledge. A decision-maker with the ability to work off your own initiative, you will also enjoy working as part of a tight-knit team that works collaboratively to achieve great results time and time again. It’s an exciting prospect, so consider joining us today.
