CGI

Higher Apprenticeship

We launched our Higher IT Apprenticeship Programmes in 2014. We have programmes that enable students to specialise in a technical field from Software Development, Cyber Security, Open Source and SAP. If the technical field isn’t what the student is after, we also have highly successful apprenticeships in Project Management and Payroll.

How long is it?

Apprentices will spend twelve weeks across the two year programme studying with our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating training provider, QA, learning the key skills and knowledge of their specialism. This is supplemented by learning on-the-job for the rest of the time as they will be working on our client projects developing their careers within CGI. We start our apprentices on £14,100 and pay for all their training and related course fees.

It’s right for those who don’t want to go on to university, but want to specialise in a specific area of IT or extend their IT knowledge with further on-the-job training. We need two C’s at A-level including a computing/IT subject or a completed Advanced IT Apprenticeship and five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English, Science and Maths) or equivalent.

Potential for the future

We are exploring the opportunity to offer those apprentices who want to continue to develop their higher education further to join into our Sponsored Degree Programme to enable them to obtain a full degree in 4/5 years from joining us.

Our Apprenticeship programmes are great for School Leavers that have a career path in mind and want to learn whilst earning at the same time. We have various apprenticeship programmes across our business ranging from levels 2-4. Join us as an apprentice and not only will you enjoy the benefits of a permanent, full-time employment contract, you can look forward to the structured training, hands-on learning, and the support and encouragement you need to get your career off to a strong start.

Qualification

During your apprenticeship you’ll study for a recognised technology qualification. And what’s even better is this learning is complemented by on-the-job training on real, live projects. So you can start to develop your career from day one.

CGI has an award winning, world class, 5* Service Desk based in Bridgend and we are looking for our future leaders in technical and leadership roles. Over the 15 month programme you will train towards a full Microsoft certified IT Systems Networking level 3 Apprenticeship onsite with QA. We offer a range of roles across many different sectors including; Service Delivery, Project Management, Technical and Project Services.

Training

During your technical training you will receive Microsoft Technology Associate qualifications in:

  • Networking Fundamentals
  • Operating System Essentials
  • Windows Server
  • Security Fundamentals

And also cover key core business skills including;

  • Communication skills
  • Time management
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Customer Service

Your studies will be complemented with on-the-job training gained on live projects with real jobs and real clients from day one. Previous apprentices have worked on top-secret national security projects, played their part in sending satellites to Mars and helped to win multi-million pound projects – all whilst continuing to maintain and deliver the high standards CGI clients have come to expect.

The best thing about joining us as an apprentice is that, while you may start in one area, the opportunity to move internally is huge. And because we also offer a permanent contract, you can grow your career in the direction you like, right from the start. You’ll have a designated People Manager who will support your career development at CGI as well as a Line Manager on your projects who support you on a day-by-day basis. On top of this, we also allocate a buddy/mentor who will assist you on the road to success.
