CGI and students – what do CGI have to offer?
CGI offers a world of opportunity. We're a global company, so you'll benefit from the wide range of resources and experiences a company our size can offer as well as the local support you will receive from the student community. You will work on our real live projects meaning you can shape and develop your career choosing different roles and career paths and across our different business units.
At the same time, you'll be part of a unique culture that gives you the freedom to innovate, to make decisions, to achieve your full potential and to develop your own career. We also believe your success is directly linked to the success of CGI – so much so that through our Share Purchase Plan you become an “owner” of CGI through purchasing CGI shares on the open market, with the added benefit of CGI matching your contribution up to 2.5% of salary.
For all of our School and College leavers we offer permanent, full-time careers so there is no worry about finding a job when you complete the programme. We also cover all tuition or training fees and the resources you need such as books and materials. When you join the company you are also given a laptop and mobile phone. You can use your laptop for your studies and training. So you have everything you need to get started!
During the programme you will benefit from a dedicated People Manager, buddy and mentor as well as first-class training and development, including the opportunity to train for professional qualifications. We also know starting a new job can be expensive, that is why we offer a relocation allowance to those that qualify under our policy.
You’ll also be able to access a range of excellent benefits, including:
- Relocation Allowance
- 25 days annual leave
- Pension contributions Profit participation plan (annual bonus)
- Share purchase plan
- Season ticket loan
- Sports and Social club
- Health and life benefits
- Member voluntary discounts
You’ll also be entitled to join our flexible benefits scheme. This allows you to change certain benefits to suit your lifestyle. For instance, you could buy or sell holidays, take out additional insurance or buy discounted childcare vouchers.
At CGI, we are also passionate about the communities in which we live and work. We take the skills required to be a leading IT services company—problem solving, creativity and dedication—and put them to work to make a positive difference. Through volunteer and pro-bono initiatives and financial investments, students will have the opportunity to contribute to those causes that benefit the well-being of our communities.
What sorts of projects will you be working on?
You could work in everything from Space and Defence to Bid Management, Contracts, Marketing, Programming, Cyber-Security and Project Management. The best thing about joining us is that while you may start in one of these areas, the opportunity to move internally is huge, so you can take control of your career from your first day. Our undergraduates have worked on top-secret national security projects, sent satellites to Mars, helped win multi-million pound projects and made sure that all our projects are planned and executed to the standards our clients expect.
Due to the nature of our business, you work on ‘projects’. This means you’re never doing the same thing and you can have different roles across various projects, so there is no ‘typical day’. It also may mean you are working on client site, in another CGI office or sometimes from home. It really does vary at CGI. And that’s the exciting thing, it really is up to you to shape and develop your career in the direction you want to go with the support of others.
To ensure you have the support for this programme, you will have a designated People/Career Manager who will support you with your career development and professional conduct at CGI. You will also have Line Managers on your projects that look after you on a day-by-day basis. Alongside this you will have a Senior Mentor who supports your University studies and network within CGI and a ‘Buddy’ which is a current or graduated student of the programme to help you with anything else you may need.
