The Maritime Services Supply Chain apprenticeship provides a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours, which can be gained working within our Supply Chain function The apprenticeship provides a firm grounding in commercial, procurement and supplier management activities and processes. The successful candidate will gain experience in key areas of the function such as Manufacturing procurement, Warship Support Project procurement, Naval Base Services and Governance. During this 2 year apprenticeship period the individual will build a knowledge of basic transactional procurement technologies as well as an understanding of the basics of contract law, negotiation and supplier management techniques
Your main responsibilities will involve:
Day-to-day support to sourcing and procurement activities, either through the management of day-to-day routine procurement activities such as expediting, or by supporting strategic procurement initiatives or projects such as supplier performance measurement and management
Dealing with stakeholders both within Supply Chain, in customer functions and suppliers to ensure that day-to-day objectives around quality, cost and delivery are achieved
Qualification gained on programme:
This position will require the candidate to undertake a CIPS Commercial Procurement & Supply Apprenticeship which upon successful completion will gain a CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply. One day per week off the job training will be delivered through a mix of classroom training, e-learning, one to one session, personal reading and research and will require the candidate to complete 9 exams, 1 project and 1 presentation over the 18 month of the CIPS based study period.
Duration of Apprenticeship
24 months- with 4 x business rotations across different Supply Chain business units. (The CIPS qualification will take approx. 18 months)
5 GCSEs grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Maths and English AND a minimum of 240/96 UCAS points, or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level)
£17,500 per annum
Overview of Business Unit
Maritime Services delivers end-to-end services and support to over half of the Royal Navy’s Surface Fleet. You could join more than 3,500 employees across our UK sites and help deliver a range of services – from ensuring the Royal Navy’s ships are ready to go to sea, managing Portsmouth Naval Base, or even manufacturing radar, torpedoes, small boats and components for aircraft.
We are proud to support the Royal Navy and provide everything its personnel need to live and work at Portsmouth Naval Base. We have extensive experience in managing the base’s facilities and services, including accommodation, catering, transportation and even energy services.
Our support to ships sees us maintain and upgrade the fleet around the globe to ensure the Royal Navy meets its operational commitments
Our training services ensure personnel are capable and ready for maritime action and our products add operational advantage to our UK and international customers, this includes radar, torpedoes and small boats, as well as electronics being used in the new F35 Lightning B aircraft. Our work on complex technologies is used to support defence activities across the globe.
We have sites in Portsmouth, Cowes on the Isle of Wight, Filton near Bristol, Great Baddow in Chelmsford, and Hillend in Scotland
