Department

Our Media Networks Operations team provides end to end network solutions for TV and radio customers, content owners and data network providers.  Every day we deliver more than 10,000 services across an infrastructure portfolio that encompasses 1,800+ broadcast sites throughout the UK, five award-winning teleports with over 80 satellite uplinks. 

Role

Our Field Technicians provide second line field-based reactive and planned maintenance activities that support our broadcast infrastructure network across the UK. You will be based at one of our regional Service Centres and will be required to travel across that region to provide maintenance support and ensure the integrity of our customer services. The role also provides technical input and resource for new project builds.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a team player with a proactive approach and attitude; and able to work independently or as part of an effective team. You will be working on complex systems and will need to have good communication skills so that, when needed, you are able to clearly explain the nature of any problem and to be able to devise and provide solutions to the problem. With a wide range of equipment in operation, you will learn to be extremely competent in fault identification, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of the various systems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete corrective maintenance, demonstrating ability to identify faults and take action to rectify the issue in a live service environment
  • Conduct planned maintenance in line with company procedures and standards across a range of terrestrial & satellite broadcast platform & supporting infrastructure
  • Assist our national project team to install, commission and upgrade new or existing broadcast data & telemetry systems.
  • Complete accurate and concise technical reports in line with Arqiva, customer and ISO Quality system requirements.
  • Use, maintain and secure a range of test equipment; identifying right equipment for job, conducting tests to standard and demonstrating an ability to interpret the results
  • Maintain, repair and configure electronic and mechanical broadcast/telecommunication equipment
  • Ensure accurate records and logs are maintained
  • Identify opportunities to improve service, process or systems
  • Able to identify improvements to processes and systems.

Apprenticeship Training

This is an exciting opportunity to combine study with real work-based experience and learning to enable you to gain a Level 5 Apprenticeship in Broadcast and Communications Engineering.  Given you will have paid employment  status,  you will not pay any training costs or tuition fees.  

This programme has been specifically designed with specialist employers in this area including Arqiva, the BBC, ITV, BT Group and Sky, and covers all aspects of TV, radio and media systems from capturing content to distributing it to users. The course will provide you with a varied skillset, preparing you for the ever-changing world of broadcast and media, equipping you with the skills you’ll need for a successful career. 

Our programme is delivered over 3 years via a block-based learning structure, which means you will spend up to 14 weeks per year at college alongside your fellow apprentices and with full accommodation support from Arqiva whilst at college. You will also attend an Induction course to gain an introduction to our business and our broadcasting infrastructure and attend other relevant technical training required specifically by your role. Outside of these training blocks, you will be able to put your learning into practice in the live working environment.

Location

This is a field-based role and we have opportunities in the following locations across the UK; Crawley Court (Winchester), Wrotham (Kent), Preseli (Wales), Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham), Mounteagle (Scotland), Winter Hill (Bolton). Please note that travel within the region you are based is required and therefore you must hold a full driving licence or be ‘test ready’ for your contract start date.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent) at Grade C (64 UCAS points); one of which should be Maths, Science or a Technical subject
  • 5 GSCEs including Maths and English at Grade C or 4/5
  • Be able to work both as part of team an independently on sites
  • Able to demonstrate problem solving skills this role will be involved with using test equipment, interpreting the results and deciding the best course of action to take.
  • Ability to follow instructions and to adhere to health and safety policies and procedures
  • Good attention to detail in order to produce high quality reports and record maintenance that has been carried out.
  • An interest in technology.
  • This role will require some work outside of typical office hours, so a degree of flexibility is required.
